What is micropropagation:
Micropropagation is a useful and modern technique of plant tissue culture for mass propagation of plants. Specifically elite plants are identified and their hundreds and thousands of identical copies are made from the growing tissues such as meristem on a defined nutrient media in a controlled environment. The entire miniaturized propagation is done in sterile condition called tissue culture laboratory. When a required quantity of microplants are made, they are then acclimatized gradually in a greenhouse and net house to natural conditions. Such micropropagated plants are called clonal plants because they are produced by asexual method (=vegetative propagation). Such plants are alike to its elite mother stock and therefore superior to conventionally propagated plants. The technique is commercially being used since 1960 for propagation of ornamental plants, forestry plants and horticultural plants.
